Welcome to my blog, people! I hope all is okay with you. I'm going to write about Ponniyin Selvan's audio and trailer release.
One of the most popular Indian movies of the year is Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam and based on the historical novel by Tamil author Kalki Krishnamurthy. The trailer and audio launch event for the film with music by AR Rahman, held in Chennai's Nehru Indoor Stadium on Tuesday evening, was lavishly produced and attended by the A-list of Hollywood, as befitted a project of such scope and grandeur.
The launch, which included outstanding musical performances and remarks, may rank among the best cinema events held in recent memory. Along with the star-studded cast, which included Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Trisha, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, the two dominant figures of Tamil film, also spoke. Here are some of the event's high points:
The endearing bond between Kamal and Rajinikanth
"Kamal, would you like to sit down?"
"No, Rajini. I'll just stand here and listen to you."
The two Tamil movie superstars' closeness and bond were clearly on display at the occasion. The two actors have a link to the filmmaker despite not appearing in Mani Ratnam's crowning achievement because they did in films like Nayagan (1987) and Thalapathi (1991). Ponniyin Selvan has long been Kamal Haasan's "dream movie," the actor added. MGR favoured doing it. He granted my request for the rights, but he cautioned me to act quickly. I had no idea why he had stated that at the time. I did know one thing, though: Mani Ratnam or I would be the ones trying to convert it into a movie.
I'm happy he went after his dream. He will consider this a significant win.
After entertaining the crowd with amusing anecdotes about filming Mani Ratnam's Thalapathi in Mysore, Rajinikanth explained why no one had tried to adapt Kalki's iconic Tamil novel for the big screen. "The lack of a part one, part two notion in the past is most likely to blame. Otherwise, film legends from the past wouldn't have let go of this issue," he stated, adding, "Despite being a voracious reader, I initially skipped reading Ponniyin Selvan since it was so long. I was fascinated when I read Jayalalithaa Madam's comment that I may make a good casting choice for a movie based on the book, so I started reading it right away. This book has wonderful writing and storyline."
