Kuruva Dweep or Kuruva Island is a protected delta consisting of a collection of islands in the middle of the Kabini River in Wayanad. The island of Kurva, which covers more than 950 hectares, is densely populated with abundant flora and fauna. Due to the island's geographical peculiarities, the place is an evergreen tree with a quiet atmosphere. Located in the middle of the Cabini River, Kurva Island is a natural paradise full of diverse flora and fauna in the most beautiful environment. Surrounded by evergreen forests, it is an attractive picnic spot away from urban pollution and noise.
If you live deep inside the island, you'll find lots of fascinating things to do, such as bamboo bridges and other rare tree species. Rare birds, orchids and herbs inhabit uninhabited islands. As we get closer to nature, Kurva Island may become a gift from nature to Wayanad. The island is surrounded by streams, where you can boat and rafting to enjoy the island's fascinating beauty. Boats and rafts are provided by the Kerala Tourism Board and it takes several hours to cover the individual islands. Tourists from different parts of the world enjoy rafting here. The raft is made of bamboo and offers an exciting and exhilarating journey through the stream.
Another thing to do on this wonderful island is to take a quiet and lazy nature walk. Celebration and picnics are restricted here as authorities maintain ecotourism on the island of Kurva. Just enjoy the beauty without damaging the pristine nature. You can also plan trekking on Kulba Island.
Lush greenery, wild orchids and flowers, and a fresh environment shape the island of Kurva. Kurva Island is a great place to get away from crazy urban life. A visit to the island refreshes the mind and body. Access to this island is restricted during the
rainy season (June-September). The island is open from October to May and admission to the island is small. The schedule is from 9am to 5pm. The island is of 15 km from Mananthavady, 58 km from Sultanbathery and 40 km from Kalpetta. There are frequent buses from Manathavady to Kuruva Island.
Tips for travelers:
Plastic and PET bottles are not allowed for cleanliness reasons. Do not clutter the place with packages or food that you may be carrying.
Swimming and bathing are strictly prohibited by the authorities. You will find boards everywhere that give you the instructions you need.
Avoid visiting Kurva Island if it rains. Traveling after the rain is so difficult that it ruins the entire experience.
If you opt for boating, do not forget the safety jackets that you will be provided with.
The place remains filled with tourists and so, if you are planning to spend a night in the tree top rooms, try booking them in advance.
