My dad was an alcoholic and a chain smoker. My childhood went just by seeing the fights between my dad and mom. My mom couldn't educate us so my sister dropped out from the school and started going to work. Then she was married off at an early age. I somehow managed to complete a degree in Government college while working part time. I did love marriage. Now both of us are in better position financially. I work in International voice process and my sister owns a tailoring shop. After several years of struggling with my dad's liquor drinking habit, he finally stopped consuming alcohol two years ago and started living a peaceful life with us. It was all going good and we couldn't even beleive he actually changed. But our happiness didn't last longer.
He suddenly developed a thrush under his tongue. We all thought it was due to some vitamin deficiency and we gave over the counter medicines. But nothing worked and soon he got headache along with the pain in the thrush. He didn't tell this to any one and was taking a lot of saridon, vicks action 500 etc. The nearby grocery shop owner told my sister that my dad is buying a lot of tablets everyday. When she enquired my dad about this he told her that even his ears and head started aching due to After hearing this she immediately took him to the hospital. Just at the first sight, the doc told that it looks like a cancerous thrush and advised to take scan, x-ray and few other tests.
We were all devastated to hear that and we were praying every God in the universe that it shouldn't be cancer. But fate had other ideas. The test came out positive and the doc told it's a starting stage of cancer. Luckily they said they can remove it by surgery but every other person we see are saying that it always comes back within a few years after the surgery and at that time, even surgery cannot be done. We are unable to even digest the thought of losing my dad. Now he is admitted in the hospital for the surgery Even after all this, my dad is still not able to come out of that habit.
This is what tobacco does to you. The addiction is more dangerous than you ever think. Don't think just 1 cigar for fun or just 1 per day. It gradually increases. Better to stay star than to regret. Health is wealth.
