Suicide is currently the biggest problem of the world.India is too struggling to overcome this problem. According to National Crime Report Bureau more people died of Suicide in the year 2020 in India than due to Covid-19. Around 1,49,000 people died of corona virus and 1,53,000 due to suicide. This includes all class of people whether farmers, bussinessman,salaried persons, students,house wives etc. Out of all these people the highest Suicide rate was among housewives. Violence against women rose up to manifold during lockdown and there was no form of escape available for them due to lockdown and hence they opted for Suicide. According to reports 11,716 business man died by suicide in 2020 as compared to 10,677 farmers in the same year.But out of all what is most striking is the death among the students in 2020. This was the year when students were less burdened under the pressure of studies but still India witnessed an alarming rate of suicides among students with an  estimated 34 deaths in a day in the year 2020.

Talking about the most recent one a student from the most premier institute IIT Bombay reportedly died by suicide on 17th January by jumping off from the seventh floor of the campus at 4:30 in the morning. According to data:

 * An estimated 12,500 students died by suicides in 2020.

*If we compare this number with the year 2019 , there is an alarming rise of 21%.

*According to NCRB between the years 1995 and 2019 India has witnessed a loss of over 1.7 lakh students to suicide.

*When the data of 2020 was closely examined ,it was revealed that out of 12,500 registered students death by suicides 53%(6000 approx) were reported just from six states ;Maharashtra, Odisha,Madhya pradesh, Tamil Nadu, jharkhand and karnataka.Banglore is known as the capital City of suicide.

What are the reasons that are driving students to self harm themselves??

Since according to study India has one of the highest suicides rate in the world, witnessed between the ages of 15- 29 years old.Thus significantly involving students.

1. So,the main reason is failing in exams,this accounts for over 32% deaths.

2. Pressure from parents and more than that pressure to outperform their peers in order to remain best.Many of the students who had been toppers throughout their school life preesurize themselves to perform more once they enter premier institution and find themselves surrounded by students equal in terms of academic performance as well as intellectual aptitude. According to a data from the centre presenTed in lok sabha premier institutes witnessed a total of 122 suicides in a single year.

3.Substance abuse, poverty, unemployment,and in corona days inability to attend online classes due lack of resources and uncertainty about future and constraint movements all contributed in deaths by suicide among students.
