The Mayan civilization was located in the east of Mexico in the dense forest which is spread across three million square kilometres. People of this civilization were considered to be skillful because they possessed the same knowledge like the skillful people of ancient Egyptians.  Similar to the ancient Egyptians they had also constructed pyramids and cities. They were also well versed in  pottery, calendar making, mathematics, agriculture, architecture . According to historians Mayans had built a total of sixty cities and these cities consisted of magnificent palaces pyramids and temple.

It is said that the Mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012. There was a playground in that City, where they played a strange game. There was hole in the wall through which the players had to throw the ball but there was a twist in this game, players couldn't use their hand, they were only permitted to use their elbow area and head. The person who won this game, basically the captain of the winning game would be beheaded after the victory. They believed that it was a sacrifice and they would be incarnated again in their next life as a better person. So they happily wanted to lose their head in order to be born as a better person.

There is a secret cenote, cenote basically means a sinkhole filled with water. It was considered sacred during their times because they used it as a spot of sacrifices. They would literally throw things, even humans, babies and young children were sacrificed . They considered young children and babies pure so they threw them into the cenote. They would be left to die in the name of a sacrifice in order to appease their gods.

There is another story of their of their belief that they would tie up the people, while they were alive and would carve out their heart and would use that too as a symbol of sacrifice. They believed that the blood would give them more fertile lands and that would ultimately lead to better agricultural produce.

The hoak calendar of the Mayans was special because it had 365 days, just like our modern day calendar. Their calendar had eighteen months and each month of twenty days.  Eighteen months each of 20 days would add upto 360 days so the left over 5 days were called as uayeb. They considered these five days to be dangerous because they believed that the underworld would get mixed with mortal world. That's why they wouldn't leave their homes during the last five days.
