Around 2000 years ago, Plato, a famous ancient greek philosopher first mentioned Atlantis . According to him the city of Atlantis existed over 11,000 years ago. Plato described Atlantis as extremely rich and powerful and compared it to a “ paradise”. They had the most of resources and even the advanced technologies. Plato mentioned that the Atlanteans were the “ children of god”. They were of extraterrestrial hybrid like they were half human and half god . According to his testimony they were endowed with a sort of supernatural powers. They had a civilization crafted by a god. They were blessed with a mighty Navy and with the help of this they controlled the most of the then known world.

But what happened to it?? why did it disappeared??. According to Plato the people of Atlantis became corrupt, greedy and morally bankrupt. Their greed drove them to attack the ancient Greek City of Athens.But the people of Athens managed to defeat them and this step of Atlanteans invited the wrath of God. Atlanteans were harshly punished by the gods.  Gods sent them all kind of brutal whims of nature like violent Earthquakes, floods and in just one day and night of disaster the whole Island sank into the sea. This theory was given by Plato.

But apart from his theory there are tons of theories about Atlantis but only some of them manages to convince the reader. The first theory finds its mention in a Book of 1883 that put forth it's point and argued for the existence of the City of Atlantis just outside the pillars of Hercules, the exact spot that Plato mentioned. Another theory states that Atlantis was today's Antarctica. According to this theory ,  suddenly the crust of Earth shifted 12,000 years ago pushing Antarctica from it's ancient spot in the middle of the ocean to all the way down to where it is Today.

The third theory believes that Atlantis never existed at all and the greek philosopher created it in order to teach people about the consequences greediness. According to some he  wanted to deliver a message of what could too much greediness can do to a great civilization. And this theory brings us to the next theory where many experts believe that the island of Atlantis was actually a kind of spaceship that lifted off and landed in another location.

But whatever may be the truth, there are no known records of existence of Atlantis outside of Plato's testimony. And despite all the modern advancements in technology no trace of Atlantis have ever be found on the floor of any Ocean.
