Today every one wants to catch up with the recent trends of fashion but  have you ever imagined at what cost??  What environment has to  bear for one to stay in trend??  What amount Of waste is generated to meet the demands of modern trends?? How fashion Industry is  destroying everything on the planet from air to water to land??

According to various stats and figures ,,it is estimated that fashion industry contributes to   approximately 10% of all  global CO2 emissions, which according to reports  is more than the combined emmision of global international aviation and shipping industry.

Let's figure out how much water is consumed by fashion industries in order to meet the growing demands of fast fashion. According to reports fashion Industry uses  water equivalent to  two months of drinking water for the entire United States which in figures is equal to eighty billion cubic metres of fresh water. You will be surprised to know that “ it takes seven hundred gallons of water to make just “one” cotton shirt. Thus fashion industry produces 20% of global wastewater.  Not only producing clothes wastes and pollutes water but cleaning also contributes in pollution ; According to recent studies washing clothes releases 500,000 tons of plastic particles:-and if you will put all the plastic particles together you would be able to make  fifty billion plastic bottles.

Wondering how fashion Industry contributes in  polluting water bodies??. 60% of our clothes are made of polyester or plastic, which makes fast fashion industries a huge contributor of plastic pollution.  Plastics are turning sacred rivers into drains, as they are full of toxic chemicals .As per reports  40% of clothes end up in landfills , and from there the clothes are washed into the seas  and oceans  . There presence in the water bodies  generates an estimated amount of 20%-35% of total microplatic found there. These microplastics chokes fish and other marine life present there.

Ghana's kantamanto market serves as one of the biggest dumping ground for overproduced and unwanted goods from fashion industry.  Fifteen million unwanted clothes are delivered in this market of Ghana every week.  Basically Ghana is a major graveyard for fashion waste and years of dumping and Ghana's overflowing landfills have created environmental havocs and nightmare. Fashion Industry loses an estimated 300 billion dollars a year due to fashion waste.

It is said it takes around 12 years to recycle what the fast fashion Industry creates in 48 hours but still fashion is predicted to increase 60% by the year  2030. One should buy responsibly in order to live sustainably.
