introduction.
Are you letting your life slip by? Are you so preoccupied with pursuing your goals that you neglect to live each day to the fullest and to be content with your present circumstances?
If you're anything like the majority of people who have a strong desire to accomplish anything, you risk slipping into the trap of being so preoccupied with it that you forget to appreciate every step along the way.
I may compare that to the traveller who said that the land he was in had beautiful scenery, but the mountains were in the way. He failed to realise that the mountains themselves were a part of the breathtaking landscape.
The Conundrum.
So it goes that we frequently forget about today because we are so preoccupied with our goals and the perfect life we hope to lead in the coming year or five years. Today should be loved just as much as when "that time" comes because it is a necessary part of the journey. After all, the fun of travelling lies not in reaching the final destination but rather in absorbing in everything that is encountered along the road.
Have you ever experienced the impatience of believing that you are not making progress toward your goals quickly enough and that, as a result, you are failing to fully appreciate the present moment? It seems as though something is keeping you from being happy until you fulfil your wish. The only issue with this situation is that while it is happening, you are dissatisfied and life is slipping past.
Both Positive and Negative News.
Both good and bad news are coming your way. The bad news is that you will never be content with the enormous house you want, the pricey automobile you want, the enormous flat-screen television you want, and all the other lovely things you plan to buy when you succeed. In reality, I know a number of wealthy individuals who are more unhappy than you can imagine. Despite having put forth a lot of effort throughout their life and having everything everything they could possibly desire, they nevertheless feel empty and lacking.
Abraham Lincoln once said, "People are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be," which is fantastic news. Therefore, regardless of your current situation in life, you have the choice to choose happiness. Never fall into the trap of believing that you will be content if you accomplish this or that in the future. If you don't alter your perspective, you will still be unhappy when you arrive.
