Hi everyone!
Hope you are all fine and safe.
Welcome to another blog.
I am sure you have all heard about  princess Aurora, the  Sleeping Beauty. That was one of my all time favourite bedtime stories. I know you all have heard this story too but have you heard about the “Sleeping Beauty syndrome”.
Sleeping Beauty syndrome also called Kleine-levin syndrome is a rare disorder with a group of symptoms like :
●Hypersomnia (which means excessive sleep or excessive drowsiness )
●Childishness
●Hallucinations
●Hyperphagia (which means excessive eating)
●Hypersexuality
●Lethargy
●Irritability
●Disorientation
●Depressed mood
Hypersomnia can last for 20 hours and even more. Sometimes the sleep can last for days, weeks or even months. During this intense sleep the person can even lose memory temporarily.
Unlike the fictional Sleeping Beauty the people affected with this syndrome wake up in between their  sleep to eat or use the bathroom. Researchers say that 5 in every million has this disorder.Among this around 70% cases occur in adolescent boys. Think about having this syndrome, it would be very difficult to attend classes, to lead a normal life, to go to work, to participate in other activities. I guess it would be very difficult to concentrate too.
We all have a strong desire to sleep after a long tiring day, but think of having this desire everyday and getting up in the morning being a big trouble. People with this kind of disorder will have a period of  full time sleep this is called an episode. These episodes can occur without any warning signs ,that is they can appear suddenly in a week or in between a month or a year. According to informations on the web, most people tend to continue with the normal activity after an episode without any changes, that is without any mental or behavioural changes. Some people may have a temporary loss of memory i.e.,they may forget the faces of people, names, they may even forget about things which they used to do as a routine.

So now as we know about this syndrome, leading life with a syndrome like this may also trigger anxiety, depression and other neuro psychological problems . People with this syndrome have hyperphagia which will increase the appetite so, the person will keep on eating and there will be a drastic increase in weight gain. Some researchers say that the syndrome gradually disappears with aging and there is no specific treatment for this syndrome, but still we can reduce the symptoms . We can use medications to control the symptoms. Controlling the symptoms itself give the person immense relief .
I hope this article was informative.
