1.What is the Historical Novel?

Though dubbed by Leslie Stephen as a “literary hybrid”, historical novels has come to stay. A writer of historical novels has to maintain a balance history and fiction, if there is a preponderance of the term. 

If, on the other hand the story element dominates, it cases to be a historical novel.it becomes a novel rather than history Stoddard rightly defines a historical novel as "a record of individual life L,  of individual emotion in circumstances and lives of historical interest.

A historical novelist has to be a historian  with a platform sense of the past and a rich creative imagination. Walter Scott combines all these qualities in a large measure.
