Expectations and hope the two words which have a slight line of difference but have a greater impact on a person's life. Both are used to view future aspirations, a strong belief for the future. Hope is a feeling of optimism or a desire for something to happen whereas Expectation whose fulfillment is largely dependent on others which has the potential to harm us and also others. With respect to expectations, hopes are more positive and healthy.
We human beings are selfish and want to own whatever we want and it's good to be selfish for some reason and some things, not all. We expect lots of things from people around us. We expect our parents to let us be without interfering in our life, we expect our partners/boyfriends and girlfriends to keep missing us or keep texting and should not ignore us, we expect our friends to give us more importance than others and many more. We even start expecting from the person we just met. Sadly life doesn't work on our expectations. We can hope for things to happen but we can expect them to happen.
The fulfillment of expectations depends on others mostly but the fulfillment of hope depends on us. We help people but do not expect them to care the same way you did. Be kind but don't expect people will care the same way you did for them, just hope that people will be kind to you. Being selfless is the greatest quality one can have so do help people without expecting anything you will get double-fold in some or the other way(you know the karma principle that you sow will reap).
Expectations hurt you so badly that it eats up your mind and starts filling up your mind with negative thoughts which can lead to the destruction of relationships. Everyone has ideal ideas about how their life should be, what kind of people they should meet, which kind of life they want etc. Well, we can just hope and work for that kind of life we want and never have extreme expectations which can hinder our progress. Never lose hope things will get better just keep working and keep yourself satisfied.
– Disappointment is a sort of bankruptcy - the bankruptcy of a soul that expends too much on hope and expectation.
