When the majority of the minority residential girls' high school pupils in Telangana's Siddipet town fell ill on Monday evening, as many as 130 of them panicked. Only 32 kids were in need of medical attention, and all of them are currently stable and under surveillance, according to the authorities, who believe that food poisoning may have been the source of their illness.
On Sunday, the children at the Mustabad Crossroad minority residential school ate chicken and brinjal curry for both lunch and dinner. On Monday morning, the majority of them reported having stomachaches, while a handful also experienced diarrhoea and puked. Students were treated in the school itself after being seen by physicians from Siddipet's health department. By the end of the day, 20 students had been admitted to the hospital while 12 others were receiving care at the dorm.
Dr. J. Kashinath, the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), said that the students entered the general ward at 8.30 p.m. There haven't been any instances of loose motion or vomiting since Tuesday morning. After another day of observation, we'll release them and let them go the following day (Wednesday). Seven of the twelve kids who received oral treatment at the dormitory have made a full recovery, while five others are being watched.
When contacted, school principal A Srilatha stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine what caused the occurrence and that all 332 of the children living in the hostel had consumed the same food. "More than 100 pupils reported experiencing stomachaches, and a handful also experienced loose stools and vomiting. With the assistance of doctors from the health department, they were treated within the hostel itself, and by evening, practically everyone had recovered, according to the principal.
She stated that there was no need to be alarmed and that only five pupils were still experiencing slight abdominal pain. "We did not want to take any chances, thus some students were hospitalised. They're taking only basic medication. The principal remarked, "We assume there might have been some issue with the meal, but we are still trying to determine the specific cause. It was the first time such an incident has occurred in the school.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who represents Siddipet, has ordered the staff to treat the pupils with the utmost respect, and he has requested a report from the school.
