Hello blogger's!!! Welcome to my blog and hope you all are doing good and having a great day. Today in this blog I am going to say a beautiful story written by a great writer Henry.

O. Henry is a well known american short story writer.the story the last leaf is published in 1907. 

Sue and johnsy are two young sisters.they live in green wich village. In November, pneumonia breaks out in that village. Many people fell victim to that dread ful disease.

Johnsy also fell victim to pneumonia.she is suffering and not able to move out of her bed. She lies in her bed through out the day looking out of the window at  an ivy plant .she starts counting the leaves of the ivy plant .

In the beginning,she finds it difficult to count the leaves as there are many leaves. Gradually the leaves start falling from the plant .as she watches the plant shedding it's leaves,she somehow takes into her mind that she will die when the last leaf falls. The doctors has no hope of her recovery.

Sue attends on her and tries to comfort her.she remains in her room trying to cheer her up.but she feels sad about her sister. She tells an old man who is an old artist lives in the same building about her sister johnsy.

She tells him about serious condition of her sister and her strange belief of dying with the fall of last leaf. This old man then expresses pity over the ailing young women.

Her sister continues to look at the same ivy plant sadly . She feels that she will die as soon as possible if it falls .but the last leaf never falls. This helps her to survive.

She now, gives up the idea of dying and tries to be happy all the time. In reality the last leaf has already fallen. The last leaf that she sees is the leaf a master piece painted by the old man . He. Painted the leaf on the wall the night the last leaf fell off .he spent the whole night in cold weather and painted the leaf. So he catched pneumonia and dies of it.

Thus the story is about the selfless sacrifice of an old man to save the life of the young artist Johnsy.
