Migraine Headaches: Fight The Pain

Studies have shown that migraine is a major health problem in India, we have all suffered from headaches, it can occur due to many reasons and the pain can range from mild to severe.

Migraine is a headache that can be described as a continuous numbing pain that becomes unbearable and makes it difficult for an individual to function normally.

What makes a migraine different from a headache is the inability to accurately predict the effects of the migraine attack as it varies according to the individual.

Migraine is dangerous because it becomes an obstacle in our path to performing simple tasks in our daily lives, unfortunately most people do not take it seriously and label it as a headache which comes and goes without any consequences to our well being.

There are many symptoms of migraine such as blurred vision, feeling dizzy, inability to focus on what you are doing, feeling weak, tired and wanting to lie down and sleep.

The pain usually starts around one side of the head and then spreads to the back of the head and the eyes, with gradual change in the severity of the pain.

There is no way to predict the frequency and severity of the migraine headache as it varies from person to person. In some cases the migraine affects the person for hours and for others the migraine headache lasts for days.

Research has shown that migraine can occur suddenly without our knowledge but there are certain factors that can cause these headaches such as a sudden change in the weather conditions, feeling tired without doing any work, being unable to sleep and feeling worried all the time about things that do not matter.

For those who suffer from migraine, they must be careful of their diet, it does not help if you are in the habit of skipping meals, eating between meals, consuming too much alcohol and eating food that is ready to eat or canned food which contains preservatives to keep the food fresh.

Migraine can be worse for those who live in an environment where there is a lot of noise, it could be watching television or the traffic passing by.

We need to take steps to stop migraine headache from taking over our lives. This can be done by the following ways:

  1. Making a note of our daily routine helps to keep track of our daily activities, this will help us to identify the source of the migraine such as loud noise , bright lights etc. and stay away from them.
  2. We know that weather conditions can cause migraine headache, so we need to stay indoors when the weather is unsuitable for travel and outdoor activities.
  3. Sleeping properly and allowing the mind and body to get complete rest, makes a difference in the fight against migraine headache.
  4. We need to avoid thinking about unrealistic deadlines at work and anything that makes us anxious and tense, this helps to prevent an migraine attack.

If the migraine headache refuses to go away, do not play doctor, it helps to consult a medical expert, there are medicines that can help in fighting migraine and stopping repeated occurence of severe pain and suffering in future.
