Born on November 7, 1954, Kamal Haasan. His father was a lawyer and a freedom fighter, while his mother was a housewife. Career
Kamal Haasan, arguably one of the biggest performers in Tamil film, has worked in the entertainment industry since he was a young child. He has performed as an actor, dancer, singer, director, screenwriter, and lyricist. The multi-talented Kamal Haasan has also starred in films in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and Bengali. He has won top civilian accolades from the Indian government, including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, as well as national film prizes and Filmfare accolades. Kamal Haasan entered politics in 2018, starting his own party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, and running for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Politics
In Tamil Nadu, he founded the centrist Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) political party. On February 21, 2018, in Madurai, he publicly declared the creation of the party. The party's flag has six linked hands in a circle, alternately coloured red and white, with a white star in the middle against a backdrop of black. From the late President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's home and his memorial in Rameswaram, Haasan started his political career. In the general election in India in 2019, his party ran on 37 seats but was defeated. In the constituencies it ran for in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Makkal Needhi Maiam received 3.72% of the vote.
Awards
For his services to Indian cinema, Haasan was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990 as well as the Padma Bhushan in 2014. For his first movie, Kalathur Kannamma, he received the President's Gold Medal for Best Child Actor at the age of six.With three National Film Awards for Best Actor, he shares a tie for second place with Mammootty. He was the producer of the 1992 Tamil film Thevar Magan, which won him a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He has received a record 19 Filmfare Awards in five different languages, but after receiving his last one in 2000, he wrote to the institution asking for no further honours. At the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2003, his films Hey Ram, Pushpak, Nayakan, and Kuruthipunal were featured in the "Director in Focus" section.
