What's the best diet ?
Ans: The one you can follow most of the time.
What is a diet ?
You probably relate it to giving up foods you like, eating very little. Even feeling deprived and restricted.
A "diet" is an eating style - nonveg, veg, eggetarian etc.
If you want a way of eating - diet - to lose/gain weight
Then look out for these that :
1. Fits into your life and culture - if you're south Indian and eat rice... you can't suddenly only eat roti all your life, right !
2. Has all food groups - Yes. You need carbs and nearly everything has carbs including dal, fruits and vegetables. Carbs are not evil.
3. Fancy ingredients- You do not need a fancy smoothie, juice or imported food.
4. Unrealistic results - I see this on fb groups the most. Lose 10 kgs in a month without exercise... hmmm only if you want to destroy your health ... I'm hoping you don't. Look for red flags... if it was so easy then wouldn't everyone do it. There would be no need for another diet on the planet !
5. Nutrient dense - Quality and the amount of nutrition it provides is more important than just calories. A banana is approx. 100 Cals about the same as 1.5 digestive biscuits. Which one do you think is better for you ?
6. Sustainable - It should be something you can continue doing whether you're in hotel, joint family, traveling or working. This will require you to understand the concepts behind nutrition but it's worth it.
7. Eat based on your preference- As a personally overweight person who struggled with myself. If your family is eating biryani or pav bhaji, you should be able to eat with them... you shouldn't be eating something else. Because you'll be miserable and you just need all your will power to control yourself. Also there is nothing wrong with these options !!!!
My tip :
Take responsibility of your health. Whatever diet you pick. With whoever you choose to do it.
Success comes down to one thing - Following it.
To start: Focus on the simplest thing you can do.
