List of the worst serial killers in the world

Ted Bundy (1946-1989)
You don't have to be American or live in the 1970s to know the name Ted Bundy.

Bundy is one of the craziest serial killers ever (not to mention kidnappers, rapists, robbers and necrophiles). His modus operandi included kidnapping, raping and dismembering female victims. He often kept their heads as keepsakes.

Bundy admitted that prior to his 1989 execution, he kidnapped and murdered 30 women, but the number is arguably much higher.

Harold Shipman (1946-2004)
Harold Shipman, nicknamed "Doctor Death," is believed to have murdered 218 patients between 1972 and his 1998. In reality, the number of people he killed is probably much higher.

As a practitioner, Shipman had easy access to potential victims. That's why he was able to be the killer of so many without arousing suspicion.

But Shipman was involved in so many patient deaths that people eventually began to suspect foul play. Most of his victims, he said, died in their sleep. It was an older woman. But many of these women died during the day, which some found strange. In addition, Shipman requested an unusually large number of cremation certificates, drawing the attention of morticians who detailed the bizarre circumstances surrounding cremations. Ultimately, Shipman was convicted in 2000, but only after he reported that the victim's daughter attempted to write a will on behalf of the victim naming him as a beneficiary. He committed suicide in prison in 2004.

Jeffrey Dahmer (1960-1994)
No list of the craziest serial killers would be complete without Jeffrey Dahmer.

Dahmer, known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, was eventually convicted of murdering 17 youths over a period of 14 years. But Dahmer didn't just kill her. He raped, dismembered, and sometimes even ate his victims.

During the trial, Dahmer admitted to turning his victims into ignorant sex slaves by piercing their heads. Dahmer was likely executed for the crime, but was beaten to death in prison in 1994.

Albert Fish (1870-1936)
If a serial killer is called a "Brooklyn vampire," "Moon he's a maniac," "Wisteria werewolf," "Greyman," "Boogieman," etc., it's almost certain that he's a total mess.

Fish was tried and convicted of raping, murdering and cannibalizing three children in the early 20th century. However, he claimed to have murdered over 100 children and boasted that "every state has a child."

Especially insane is the fact that Fish sent a letter to one of his victims, his 10-year-old Grace his Budd's mother. The letter details how he lured the girl, strangled her, cut her into pieces and ate her over the course of nine days.

Jack the Ripper (Unknown Serial Killer ~1888)
Jack the Ripper may be a household name, but no one knows who he really is. Whoever he (or she) actually was, Jack the Ripper was definitely insane.

In 1888, Jack the Ripper terrorized London's Whitechapel, cutting the throats and abdomens of at least five of his prostitutes to death. Sometimes he would remove a woman's womb and receive it as a prize of sorts.

Though Jack the Ripper's true identity is unlikely to be revealed, Reperology, the investigation and analysis of murders, has inspired many hypothetical novels and films over the years.

Richard Ramirez (1960-2013)
For over a year in the 1980s, Richard Ramirez terrorized neighborhoods all over Los Angeles.

Nicknamed the "Night Stalker," Ramirez would break into homes and brutally murder his victims, sometimes even raping them first. His victims ranged from women in their early twenties to his 79-year-old. His favorite weapons included handguns, knives, tire levers, machetes and even hammers.

Ramirez has never expressed his remorse for his own crimes. He was sentenced to death, but died of lymphoma before being executed.

Zodiac

The Zodiac Killer is one of America's most notorious serial killers. From the 1960s to the 1970s, the Zodiac murdered at least five people, often couples, in remote areas near San Francisco. His first victim was Cheri Joe Bates. He wrote her confession about her, including the message "Take care of her...".

Due to its relationship with the media, the media is fascinated by the Zodiac his killer. Zodiac began sending encrypted messages to various newspapers shortly after his first murder, mocking the police. He signed these letters in a circle with his symbol, the plus sign, on top. He sent the infamous cipher, "This is the Zodiac talking. By the way, did you crack the last cipher I sent? My name is..." A series of 13 symbols followed. To date, this code has not been cracked. The Zodiac Killer case remains unsolved. Suspects have come forward, and to this day they still come forward, but no one has been confirmed as the actual Zodiac Killer.

Aileen Wuornos

Serial killer Aileen Wuornos was forced out of her home after being sexually abused as a teenager. After being involved in her previous legal case, she made a living as a prostitute on Florida's highways, and in 1989 she killed a man who picked her up. She killed at least five of her other men and was eventually arrested, convicted, and put on death row. Her sanity was questioned, but Wuornos was executed by lethal injection in 2002.
