According to mythology,Kerala was created by gods.

According to mythological accounts, sage parshurama, the incarnation of Vishnu, the creator of the world, created with his aue. He threw the an into the water and the water receded to create the patch of earth that is modern Kerala.

According to another mythological account, king Mahabali ruled Kerala and even gods were jealous of the kingdom's prosperity and wealth in those days and finally they managed to send him away by the incarnation of Lord Vishnu named Vamana. Commemorating king Bali, Onam, Kerala's state festival, is celebrated with joy and fervor every year.

Mr.Walter Mendez is credited with coining the name “God's Own Country ” for Kerala to help revitalize the state's tourism sector in 1989. He worked on various ideas on behalf of Kerala Ministry of Tourism  to promote the natural beauty of Kerala around the world. He was creative director of an advertising agency and his coined name “God's Own Country ” has done wonders in Kerala's tourism sector.

Kerala's economy is growing at a rate 13%. “God's Own Country ” was Kerala Tourism's slogan on all platforms in the country and in the world. This simple slogan showed the possibilities of the state as the most popular tourist destination in India. The tag found a place with hundreds of curious traveler's to see this beautiful place know as “God's Own Country ”.

There are many aspects of Kerala that allow it to be called “God's Own Country ”. Kerala will be one of the few places in the world where you can enjoy beaches, backwaters, illustrations, houseboats, history, amusement parks and a rich culture and heritage at a distance of 400 kilometres.
