Living energetically and happily is one of the greatest desires of any human being.  But a healthy body is essential for a happy mind. Over the centuries many methods have been popular among us to reduce mental stress and maintain a healthy body.  The fact that we are still innovating and creating new exercise routines instead of following them all shows how important health is to humans.  Not only exercise routines but diet is also an important factor influencing health.

Exercise
Needless to say, daily exercise is essential for a healthy body. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends at least 150 minutes per week of moderate aerobic exercise 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic exercise or a combination of the two. We can easily meet these goals by exercising for 30 minutes per day, five days per week.

Examples of aerobic exercise include running, rowing, cycling, swimming, walking, hiking, and dancing.

Choose a healthy nutritional routine

Here are some specific recommendations for eating for a healthy body and mind:

 Control your portion sizes.

Fill most of your plate with colorful, nutrient-dense, low-calorie foods like fruits and vegetables.

Be realistic about how much food you want to feel full – our eyes can get the best of us, especially when we're at a buffet or using large plates.

Load up on vegetables and fruits.

Be sure to limit fried, covered in thick sauces or canned in heavy syrups.

 Choose whole, fiber-rich grains.

Examples are whole-wheat or whole-grain bread, brown rice, oats, barley, and buckwheat.

A simple rule of thumb is to look for "whole" as the first word in the ingredients list.  Even foods labeled "wheat" may not be "whole wheat" unless otherwise designated as such.

 Limit your sodium intake.

Excess sodium causes high blood pressure, which is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.  The AHA recommends a goal of 1,500 milligrams of sodium or less per day.  Packaged and processed food can be surprisingly high in sodium, so make sure the majority of your food is fresh and unprocessed.

Saturated fats and trans fats can raise your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and increase your risk of unwanted diseases.  To avoid these fats, limit your intake of pastries, red meat, processed meat, and fried foods.

Trade these for monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in foods like olive oil, avocados, almonds, cashews, salmon, and anchovies.

It seems there is something to the saying "laughter is the best medicine".  Research has shown that laughter has an immediate effect as a vasodilator that causes your blood vessels to dilate and lower blood pressure.  Laughter also releases endorphins, which are natural chemicals in the body.  Endorphins relieve stress and increase feelings of well-being.
