Legends behind the abandonment of Kuldhara village-
There may be an earthquake.
Scarcity of water which reduced crop production, which forced villagers to leave the village.
A legend says that , Minister of jaisalmer Salim Singh increased taxes which led decline of the Kuldhara .
The main legend - It says that the village Kuldhara was abandoned in one night . According to this legend the minister Salim Singh was attracted to a beautiful girl who was the daughter of Raj guru . So , he asked the girl to marry him , but she denied saying that “I will marry where my parents will say ”. So the Salim Singh went to the Raj guru and said that he wants to marry his daughter . Then Raj guru denied saying that “ you are kshtriya and we are Brahmins , you eat flesh and we don't ” . So I can't marry my daughter with you . After listening this Salim Singh went out in anger. Next day Salim Singh wrote a letter, he said that Either he will get the girl by attacking on the village or he will kill or the villagers . After this , all the leaders of 84 villages gathered and decided to save the girl and abandon the village . People who did not want to leave the village killed themselves there . The villagers cursed the village “ if we cannot settle in this village , no one else will be able to settle in this village ”.
After that Kuldhara and 84 villages were left abandoned . And today Kuldhara village is taken care by the Archaeological survey of India as a Heritage site .
