Indian food has a huge range of flavours and is inspired by many different regional cultures and customs. Seafood plays a big role in Indian cuisine and is consumed in a variety of ways since India has a vast coastline.

Coastal Varieties

Seafood is a staple and a major component of the native cuisine in India's coastal areas. Seafood cuisines from states like Kerala, Goa, and West Bengal are renowned for their rich flavours. Common ingredients in curries, fry meals, and classic dishes like Meen Pollichathu   and Chingri Malai Curry include fish, prawns, crabs, and lobsters.

Tandoori Delights

Seafood tandoori recipes are well-liked in India. Food prepared in a traditional clay oven known as a tandoor is referred to as tandoori. Fish, prawns, and lobster are cooked to perfection after being marinated in a yoghurt and spice mixture.

Fish curries

Indian food isn't complete without fish curries. The preparation of fish curry varies considerably by area. For instance, in Bengal, the well-known Fish Paturi is prepared by steaming or grilling marinated fish wrapped in banana leaves. Meen Molee is a well-known fish dish made in Kerala with ingredients including curry leaves, turmeric, and ginger.

Fried Seafood

Indians enjoy fried seafood meals. Spice-marinated fish, prawns, and squid are battered and deep-fried till crispy. These mouthwatering nibbles are frequently offered as a side dish with hearty entrees or with sour chutneys.

Goan Delicacies

Goan cuisine is recognised for its distinctive fusion of Indian and Portuguese flavours. Goa is a coastal state in western India. Goan seafood recipes are distinguished by the use of coconut, vinegar, and hot spices. Goan seafood dishes like Goan Fish Curry, Prawn Balch'o, and Crab Xec Xec are some examples.

Specials from the Street

Indian street cuisine is a gastronomic journey all on its own, and seafood is a common ingredient in many of the dishes. The "Bombay Duck Fry," a signature dish from Mumbai, includes crispy fried fish. The "Jhal Muri" of Kolkata is a spicy, sour snack prepared with puffed rice; occasionally, dried fish is also added for flavour.

India's many regions each have their own unique seafood delicacies. Fish and vegetable stews like Macha Ghanta and Chingudi Jhola are famous in the eastern state of Odisha. While the Chettinad area of Tamil Nadu is renowned for its fiery fish dishes, Royyala Vepudu, a fiery prawn curry, is a favourite in Andhra Pradesh.

. Indian cuisine provides a delicious variety of seafood alternatives for food fans to savour, from aromatic curries to hot tandoori meals and crunchy fried appetisers.
