Hello readers! Here are a few things I wish I knew before I started my fitness journey. Read this and make sure you don’t make the same mistake I did in the past!
LIFTING WEIGHTS DOES NOT MAKE YOU BULKIER. Women tend to be hesitant to lift weights thinking they might look bulky and masculine. But that is not the case at all! Men gain muscle due to more testosterone levels as compared to women. If anything, lifting weights just makes your bones stronger and plays a great role in strength building.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO STARVE TO LOSE WEIGHT- You do not need to completely stop eating your favorite foods to lose weight. Having a balanced diet and ensuring that you are following the 80/20 principle (80% healthy, while 20% junk ). I am not a professional myself, but I have seen so many coaches recommend a calorie deficit diet (where you burn more calories than you eat) for effective weight loss.
YOU DID NOT GAIN WAIT BECAUSE YOU QUIT THE GYM- Post gym weight gain is is not because you don't step in the gym anymore, it’s just that you were more motivated towards your workout and eating right, which was probably not the case after quitting the gym. Hence you end up shredding very fewer calories and consuming way more than your active gym days, ultimately resulting in weight gain.
HAVING ABS SHOULD NOT BE YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL- Ofcourse abs mean you are paying attention to your core and you have achieved your target of a lower body fat percentage, a women’s body fluctuates during the whole month, depending on the menstrual cycle. Infact, you can even notice changed at different intervals of the day, pre and post meals. The abs may or may not be visible to you all the time. While abs are aesthetic and make you look good, don’t be demotivated by the tummy rolls or lower body fat. Instead, focus on a healthy body!
ONLY CARDIO IS NOT THE KEY TO WEIGHT LOSS- Yes, you need cardio for weight loss. However, an ideal exercise routine include a combination of cardio and weight lifting. Studies show that weight training is more effective in buring calories at rest, which may also boost metabolism over a period of time.
