Today, the mighty Brooklyn Bridge stands as a spectacular landmark to all of us.The majestic stone towers and graceful steel cables is a dependable route for many thousands of daily commuters in New York.

Proposals for a bridge connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn were first made in the early 19th century, which eventually led to the construction of the current span, designed by John A. Roebling. The project's chief engineer, his son Washington Roebling, contributed further design work, assisted by the latter's wife, Emily Warren Roebling.

However, this bridge has an interesting story to its existence.

In 1883 ,an engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a bridge connecting New York with Long island. But the idea was thought to be impossible because the East River was one of the busiest waterways, with hundreds of crafts of all sizes sailing on it at any time of the day.Further due to the width of the waterway and being a salt water estuary,it was prone to turbulence and tidal conditions.Bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea.

But this did not deter Rowling .He was relentless. He along with his son, Washington began to build their dream bridge. Unfortunately within a few months,a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling and Washington was injured which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk even move.

Inspite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge.

All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it.By moving this,he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife. Then he used same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do.It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.

For thirteen years, Washington tapped out his instructions with his fingers on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed.

Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a  tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his relentless determination not to be defeated in any circumstances.

Once again another story of past has proven us the fact that when we crave for something we can surely make it happen. No matter what happens around you, if you think you are right and your dream doesn't let you sleep go for it.

Where there is a will there is always a way.
