               Dune (2021) is set in the year of 10191. Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Issac), ruler of the ocean planet Caladan, ordered to take control of planet arrakis by his emperor in order to replace House Harkonnen, the current ruler of the of Arrakis. Planet Arrakis is desert planet and produces only substance called ‘ the spice’ which is considered as cash crop of the planet. Duke Leto then starts this critical interstellar journey along with his Lady Jessica ( Rebecca Ferguson) who is member of only women's cult bene Gesserit and son  Paul (Timothee Chalamet ) and his fighter troops. Paul is lately dreaming about war and sandstorms on planet Arrakis. Bit confused about his dreams he lands on planet and film proceeds. 

               This is going to be trilogy so first installment is primarily worked as introduction to dune universe for those who are not familiar with book. Both planets have their own personalities and rulers of planets are more interested in control of Arrakis for making money out of spice. Even though this is political story we experience it from the point of view of the Paul. He is been trained by his parent yet not ready to rule. He is still confused. His folks started calling him ‘The One’ but in his mind he is not sure about taking lead in this politics of huge interstellar empire. 

              Cinematography is amazing. One can say that this film can be categoried as visually spectacular movie of 2021. VFX used for sandstorms scenes feel like we are almost got trapped in it , if one is watching film in 3D format in cinema hall. Background score by Hans Zimmer is mesmerizing. The score has flavour of Arabic, Indian and African music as this is future fiction and different cultures around the world will get blend when space travel going to be routine  for humans. Many were wondering why Zimmer choose “Dune” over Christopher Nolan's “Tenet ”and answer lies in legacy of book itself. 

                Timothee chalamet is finest actor of his generation.The way he is choosing his projects in last 7 years, one can definitely predict that we will be seeing him in the race of Academy awards in coming years. All other supporting cast have done their jobs really well. Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica perfectly fits into character. Chani ( Zendaya) had little screen time but her character will have lead role in next part.

                This film can be described as commercial plus art film. One with action pack masala movie expectations might get disappointed. If you are familiar with Director Denis Villenueve's previous work or trying to develop test of good films, this movie is for you.
