Many businesses buy domains from a variety of sources. Some buy them from their Web developers as a package with their own building funds, some people buy them from their hosting vendors, some people buy them themselves online. There are also those who purchase it from their hardware store or perhaps with the yellow page guide service. But what happens if any of these vendors or companies close? Who will process your domain updates? Will you lose your domain if the company closes or does not respond? This article seeks to explain how you can avoid losing your domain when your reseller or reseller closes.

Keep your WHOIS information up to date

The most important factor in determining domain ownership is the WHOIS information stored with the domain name registrar. We usually purchase domains from middle-class people or reseller Domain Registrar. While resellers may give you a better price, they may not give you the ability to control your domain name. This means that you are at their mercy with everything you do and your background. One thing you need to make sure, anyone who buys a name from, This authorized person can include a company official or agent, CEO or IT manager. But this should definitely not be a web designer, a middle person or a salesperson. This will ensure that when you want to manage your domain name or transfer it at any time, if you send an email from your registered email address and manage it, the registrar will help you manage your domain name. If you do not have control of your domain name and your reseller shuts down, you will have a very difficult time proving that you own the domain name.

Keep domain control in your hands

Once your domain is registered, or shortly thereafter, you should insist on having Domain Name Control Panel details. This should include the login name, password and URL from where you can sign in. Once you have this information, you should try it and check to see if your domain can be managed with that login information. You should also change your password for that control panel and share information only with those you trust. Access to the domain control panel does not need to be provided by a web designer or hosting company, unless you would like them to manage the account. If they would like to make changes to your DNS entry or domain name directories, they can always guide you on how to do it. You can also get the help of your domain name reseller to guide you on how to make changes.

Domain Registrar assisting

If you end up not knowing anything about your seller, or if your seller does not respond or is closed in store, there is still hope. You can always contact the higher authorities i.e. the Registrar of Domains. The domain registrar is licensed by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) to sell domain names. These Registrars also nominate dealers or resellers, from whom you may have purchased names from stores. In the rare case of a Registrar leaving a business or a closed store, all his domains are automatically changed to a new registrar and all domain owners are notified of this. This means that your domain will remain subject to the Registrar no matter what. The registrar is obliged to follow certain rules and standards and will cooperate with you if you can prove that you are the real owner of the domain. Normally, if you want to make a change to the WHOIS domain names record, but have lost access to the control panel, you can always fax your credentials to the registrar and gain access to the domain domain after a few edits. If the Domain Registrar becomes difficult or unresponsive, you can raise the issue with the status of the complaint to ICANN. This way, you know that your domain name will never be lost, if you take the initiative.
