What is Life skill? Learning life skills not only promotes independence, but it also promotes the social-emotional learning skills that teens require. There are five core skills that help build them! Keep an eye out for: self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, and making responsible decisions. Life skills and evolution go hand in hand, and can help your child succeed later in life. Learn about the most important life skills your child should have and how to incorporate them into your daily routine.

How does self-awareness emerge?

Self-awareness does not emerge overnight. It happens gradually. When children are able to recognise and name their emotions, strengths and challenges, and likes and dislikes, the process begins. Some children, particularly those who have difficulty reading social cues, have a more difficult time learning theory of mind. It's not that they're unconcerned about other people's feelings. Instead, they may fail to notice or understand the emotions of others.

Consider a child who stands very close to other children when speaking. Public self-awareness would be noticing the other kids' discomfort, figuring out what's causing it, and then taking a step back. However, failing to notice and continuing to stand close does not imply that the child is intentionally being disrespectful. It's possible the child missed the social cue. Or that the child requires additional assistance in learning to recognise other people's reactions and feelings.

Why Do Young People Need Social Awareness?

Developing the fundamental skills of social awareness is beneficial because it allows them to gain greater control over their social and emotional well-being. This development is most successful when children are young, through a combination of traditional school-based education and curriculum-aligned programmes designed to supplement children's learning through various activities and exercises.

As adults, we frequently take for granted the life skills we have acquired over the years. These are skills that we use every day, but most of the time we only learn them after we reach adulthood, and it is often forgotten to pass these skills on to our children.

Self – Management skills - Early childhood self-management is closely linked to language development and the ability to express oneself. This contributes to the creation of an environment that fosters brain development during the critical stages.

Self-regulation not only promotes better learning outcomes in children and adolescents, but it is also linked to better social, health, and economic outcomes throughout their lives.

Regardless of IQ or social background, research shows that young children's self-control skills — such as conscientiousness, self-discipline, and perseverance.
