First of all, many of you would be curious to know that “WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?”. Okay, Let’s try to put this in some simple words-
“It could be defined as the change in the average condition like temperature and rainfall in a region over a long period of time.“
It includes both Global Warming (due to emission of Greenhouse Gases) and the large scale shifts in weather patterns. Though, there have been previous phases of climate change but we, the humans, have made an unprecedented impact on Earth’s climate on a global scale since the mid 20th century.
As we all know, Uttarakhand is working effectively on its industrial sites, somewhere we are also moving towards one of the major cause of future cataclysm in the state.
There are approximately 1900 factories only in Uttarakhand, which are highly responsible for the emission of Greenhouse Gases causing global warming.
Glaciers are disappearing from earth, increasing the sea level and global warming is a major reason behind it, especially in the last three decades, which could convert to a major holocaust in future.
Recently, on February 7, a glacier, in Joshimath in Chamoli, broke off, triggering massive flood in Dhauli Ganga River. Owing to which more than 300 peoples were affected. Though the actual cause of this glacier burst is being probed, scientists have warned that glaciers are disappearing from Earth due to global warming.
A large number of approximately 12 million families are directly dependent on the Indian Himalayas, which is now a victim of climate change. Climate change has a strong influence on the precipitation over the Himalayas as well as the melting response of glaciers or snow cover in Himalayas, which, in turn, affects the runoff pattern of rivers draining from the glaciated catchments of Himalayas.
