Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are also helming “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Downey’s return as Doctor Doom, rather than Iron Man, has surprised fans, particularly following his triumphant appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.
Doctor Doom, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appeared in The Fantastic Four #5 in 1962.
