Review of Ponniyin Selvan 2: Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2 is sure to stir some controversy. Fans of the book might be frustrated by several significant departures from the book, but the talented filmmaker knows he can't be completely true to the text. The fact that Tamil film took so long to adapt the masterwork Ponniyin Selvan is sometimes attributed to the negative reviews for Ponniyin Selvan 2. Even while this is somewhat true, the novel's verbosity doesn't mesh well with the visual aspect of film. It took some time for the Tamil film industry to create someone with Mani Ratnam's sensitivity for both mediums and ability to bridge the divide. In the first movie, Mani steadfastly adhered to Kalki Krishnamurthy's writings, which were expensive.
Fair enough, this emotional high has a significant impact on the dramatic scenes, as the subsequent events cannot match the tension and drama the story had built up to Karikalan's death. In order to heighten the drama and give us an adrenaline rush, Mani Ratnam appears to have realised this as well. The climax, however, is where everything fall flat the most. Even in Kalki's book, the conclusion is somewhat understated and has a few too many twists. However, in this case, despite the writers' shrewd decision to offer us a more acceptable twist, the speech that Arulmozhi gives before making the ultimate sacrifice falls flat.
For someone who disliked Ponniyin Selvan 1, Part 2 was a dramatic change and a lovely surprise, largely because Ratnam is using this opportunity to depict a love saga at the centre of a tale about a ruling house.Ponniyin Selvan 2 is an excellent way to make up for part 1's disjointedness. There is a lot to understand in this case, with a lethal love story of the Ratnam brand at its core. This is one that you must finance.
Ponniyin Selvan 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to Mani Ratnam's masterwork Ponniyin Selvan 1, has finally been released and appears to be vying with its predecessor in terms of audience response. The debut of PS-2 has further heightened the excitement among fans, and those who saw the movie during its initial showings are praising it on social media. Some even compared it to SS Rajamouli's Bahubali 2 as being larger.
One user of the internet wrote on his Twitter account, "Watched #PS2." The actual pride of Indian cinema is this! Sorry, Tollywood fans, but Ponniyin Selvan 2 is far superior to the overhyped #Bahubali 2 and is currently in danger at the box office. "PonniyinSelvan2 one word," another user tweeted. Review: SUCCESS. A #Maniratnam sequel that is brilliant. #ChiyaanVikram Faceoff scenario should steal the show.
