Once there lived an old lady in a remote village. She lived alone in her small hut and had a vegetable garden near the house where she grew carrots. Every morning when she wakes up, she goes to her garden and water the plants. Looking at her carrot plants gave her hope and happiness for the entire day.

One morning she woke up in the middle of her dream. One saint came to her home in the dream and told her that there is a treasure hidden beneath her vegetable garden. The saint told her that if she dug the garden and took the treasure she will live like a Queen. 

The old lady was confused and excited at the same time. She was confused because the dream felt more like a reality, but she knew it was just a dream deep down in her mind. She was excited because she has always fascinated by the life of a queen. She was unable to sleep for the rest of the night thinking whether or not to trust the dream. 

When it was finally morning, our old lady decided to dig the vegetable garden and search for the treasure. She strongly believed that the dream was an omen and the saint who was in the dream is the messenger of God. So that day, instead of watering the carrot plants, she took a hoe and started digging from one side. 

She dug the garden from one side to the end, ruing all the carrot plants with no sign of treasure. But she was not disappointed. She continued hoeing till the sunset. The next day she repeated the same routine with no gain and the next day with the vain hope of finding the treasure. But on the fourth day, she understood that there are no hidden treasures in her garden and that she has ruined her crops, her only way of earnings, by trusting a stupid dream. 

We are all more or less like the old lady. We all have resources that could eventually lead us to our dream life. But we are always impatient and seek ways that could lead us fast to the dream life. The old lady could have ignored the dream and have taken care of the carrots instead of taking the shortcut- believing in the dream- to have her dream life. As the famous saying, “There are no shortcuts to success”. We have to work our way through the hardships and endure the pain and take the right path to success, not the shortcuts.
