The Many World Theory And Immortality

Curiosity is the best-attributed feature of humans which has resulted in the world we live in now. If we were not curious about our surroundings we might never have become the superior creation of God. Every human is curious, and if you may ask me what makes me curious, my answer would be, life after death, our dreams and the history of mankind. All these things have something hidden inside it. Science could prove some things, but not all the questions in my curious mind are answered by science. Our curiosity and fascinations make our life thrilling and adventurous. What are your fascinations? What are you curious about?

Life after death is a mystery to all of us, mostly because we don't know what will happen and we have no proof of what will happen. What if we never die? What if I say we live forever? what will be your response? Well, there is a probability that this is true. How?

Physics, as we all know, is the natural science that studies matter, its motion and behaviour through space and time and the related entities of energy and force. Physics is further classified into two, Quantum Physics in which we study the nature of electrons or the subatomic particles and Macro Physics where Newton's law is applied. Both divisions have separate laws only applicable to them. One of the most famous equations in Quantum Physics is Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which states,

Uncertainty principle, also called Heisenberg uncertainty principle or indeterminacy principle, statement, articulated (1927) by the German physicist Werner Heisenberg, that the position and the velocity of an object cannot both be measured exactly, at the same time, even in theory.

This theory is only applicable to the subatomic world where particle size is relatively very very small compared to their mass and this principle cease to exist in the macroworld where all of us live. What will happen if we apply this theory to the physical world? Now, imagine a car moving along the highway with a speed of 100kmph, can you determine the position and velocity of the car at a particular instant of time? Yes, we can. The uncertainties, in this case, are so small that we cannot observe them.

A scientist named Everett proposed the Many-World theory. Wherein he states that we live in a multiverse rather than a universe. He says that there might be infinitely many worlds running parallel to each other with no overlap. For example, in this world, I am an engineer and maybe in some other world, I am a professor in mathematics which was my childhood dream.

It is like a probability question in elementary school when you were asked to find the probability of getting a red coloured ball from a bag that has five different colours in it. There is an equal probability of getting all the balls. Likewise in real life, when you decide something, there is an equal chance of choosing all the possible ways of options in decision making. Many World theory says that you choose every possible way, and each of the decisions you make goes into different worldlines with different consequences.

This theory also leads to another theory known as “Quantum Immortality”. According to this theory, the probability of death is never one. Imagine you met with an accident, what are the probable outcomes?

  1.   You may die.
  2. You may get injured
  3. You may escape the accident altogether.

There are infinitely many possibilities, so the probability of you getting killed in an accident is very less. At the instant of the accident, the world splits into many worlds and when you die in one worldline you continue to live in another one. In this way, you live forever.

The whole concept of Many-world Theory is overwhelming. If weapply Heisenberg's Principle to the physical world we could find that this theory actually holds some truth. This will also provide proof for our age-old belief of the soul being immortal in nature. Nevertheless, the theory has not accepted by any of the prominent scientists. The debate on whether this is true or false could go on for a long time because there is no practical evidence for the existence of many worlds.

Many people who oppose this theory is of the opinion, we already have a lot of complex problems to solve, so why make things more complicated? It is simple to believe we live in a universe, many things are easier that way but what if this is true? What do you think about the whole idea? Do comment your opinions in the comment box.
