The Heartbreak That Changed Life

When Rekha woke up, an eerie silence filled the room. It took her several minutes to comprehend the fact that she was alone in the house. It has been a week since Sachin left the house but every day she wakes up expecting to see his face.

Rekha and Sachin were married for 3 years and they worked in the same company. They were the celebrated couple among the whole employees. Everything seemed perfect until one fine day Rekha found Sachin with a coworker in the restroom, holding on to each other and kissing passionately. Rekha froze. When she regained her poise she silently left the room without disturbing the kissers.

She left the office right away. She thought to confront Sachin that night but decided otherwise. She thought he will come, tell her and this will soon be a closed chapter in both their lives. That evening she cooked dinner, cleaned the house and waited for Sachin. He has already told her in the morning that he had to go see a site engineer to work on the plan of their new home and will be late.

Rekha felt something was wrong but she was in no mood to dwell on the thought. “I know him for the past five years and we are happily married for three years and there is no way he could cheat on me. That must be some random new intern who tries to get her way into the industry. Those types of girls do anything to make their career.” Rekha thought. But deep down inside she knew that this is stupid and the reality will the opposite which she didn't want to accept until it is revealed by Sachin.

As she waited, she scrolled through her Instagram feed. She saw Selin, the daughter of the MD of her office, posted a picture of her with a man whose face was hidden. Rekha was smart enough to know the man was her husband. She immediately screenshot the picture.

Now she was sure of two things, first, her marriage is finished and second, she is going to have a heartbreak that will be too hard to recover.

Divorce was the first thought that came into her mind. But that was not to be decided in a hurry. Not knowing what to do next, Rekha closed her eyes and focussed on her breathing.

She hoped and prayed that Sachin would prove all her thoughts wrong. But that didn't happen. Instead of accepting his fault, Sachin put all the blame on Rekha. Heartbroken and disrespected, Rekha stopped talking to Sachin. That day literally ended their marriage but they stayed together for a while.

Rekha was strong enough to deny all the sadness and emptiness she felt inside for a while but weak enough to share anything with anyone. Soon she started falling into the iron grip of depression. It took her a hell of a lot of effort to come out of the grip and a lot of self-persuasion to stand up for herself and go for divorce.

It broke her heart to see Sachin leave the house. But she welcomed the pain and waited for the pain to transform her into a new and strong lady.

Trust is like a pot. Once broken, you might be able to glue the broken pieces but the pot will never be the same. So, when you are betrayed by the people you love, don't hold on to them, just let them go. Their part in your life is over. Accept and move on. We have one life, live it with people who are worth your trust, your love and your respect.
