Water Nation | Vairamuthu
The land of water
I thought 'Karuvachi Kavyam' was a poem but it is a novel. I thought the land of water was a novel, but it was a poetic style. Both did not disappoint.
In 1996, Ananda Vikatan published 24 volumes of Water Nation, which was later published as a book.
Not really interested in reading poetry. So, it was disappointing that we had bought it without knowing. Disappointingly little read and poetically unimpressive.
Since it was not a poem at once, but a natural commentary and speech, I struggled to continue and felt as if I was reading a regular novel.
The novel was interesting as it was a sea voyage.
The land of water
Kalaivannan is a journalist and his girlfriend is Tamil Roja. Kalaivannan likes water. Tamil Roja is afraid of water as she survived falling from a boat while studying in school.
Kalaivannan takes Tamil Roja to the sea in a boat with his fisherman friends without planning to overcome his fear of water.
The story is about what happens when the boat breaks down in the middle of the sea, water all around, and the situation becomes bad for Tamil Roja.
When sarcastically speaking of poetry, if written at length, the story. It is called a poem if it is folded and written 🙂 . This novel is almost like that. 80% regular writing, 20% poetic writing.
Vairamuthu Commentaries
Those who have read Vairamuthu's novels Karuvachi Kavyam and Gallikattu Ithikasaam will know how good Vairamuthu is in narration. In this too, he is amazing in his comments and details.
Kalaivannan's words for the Tamil rose to vomit because the sea environment does not agree with it..
Do not light anything inside
Be brave and spit it out
Cue desire
Enlightenment will come
Fear is the clue
Courage will come
The secret is sleep
will come
When describing the difficult life of fishermen
These are the shore mendal
Fish can be eaten on shore
If not, these people
eat fish
Hunt or
Be played – this is it
Written in this water
Immortal words
Rust on steering iron
Rust on the cooking stove
Rust on the planting wire
Rust on the edge of the barge
Still stainless
Their bones
Only.

Vairamuthu used the following lines from the novel in the 2014 film Kochadaiyan.
Even water if you are patient
Sieve it – it's ice
If you wait until the tumor
Science News
There are many scientific messages and words of hope in this novel. Along the way, Bermudas also explains the reasons for the triangle horror.
It seems as if Kalaivannan is giving a scientific explanation to the fishermen shouting 'fire ghost' in the sea. Do these people who are in the sea not know the reason for this?!
