The Harry Potter film series is based on the British author J. K. Rowling's books of the same name. Warner Bros. Pictures is the producer and distributor of the eight fantasy films in the series, which start with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). The Wizarding World shared media franchise began with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), a spin-off prequel series.
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, the three main characters in the series, which was primarily produced by David Heyman. The series was directed by four people: David Yates, Mike Newell, Alfonso Cuarón, and Chris Columbus. The screenplay for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) was written by Michael Goldenberg, and Steve Kloves created the screenplays for the other movies. Production spanned a decade, with the primary plot trailing Harry on his mission to vanquish Lord Voldemort, his greatest adversary.
The seventh and last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was made into two full-length films. Parts 1 and 2 were made available in November 2010 and July 2011, respectively.
Assigning Harry, Ron, and Hermione to respective responsibilities:
Producer David Heyman and writer Steve Kloves found lead actor Daniel Radcliffe seated right behind them in a theater in 2000, following a seven-month search. According to Heyman, "There was this boy with these big blue eyes sitting behind me." Dan Radcliffe was the one. I recall my initial thoughts of him: he was incredibly animated, witty, and inquisitive. There was genuine tenderness and charity as well. However, he was also extremely gregarious and had a burning desire to learn about everything."
In the 1999 BBC television adaptation of David Copperfield, Radcliffe made his acting debut as the title character during his early years. Heyman convinced Radcliffe's parents to let him try out for the Harry Potter role, which required filming Radcliffe. After seeing Radcliffe's taped audition, Rowling expressed her excitement and said she couldn't conceive of a better actor to play Harry Potter.
Heyman was interviewed by Los Angeles Times writer Geoff Boucher, who also noted that the casting of the three main parts "is especially impressive in hindsight." The group's choice was undoubtedly among the greatest in show business during the previous ten years; they have handled adolescent celebrity with remarkable poise and composure."
