Hydroponics is a soil less farming technology in which plants are grown in a nutrient rich solution. This technique can be used in urban ares where in small space high yields can be produced.
Producing food in the urban areas has been the essential part in our growing world. The main reason for not producing food in the urban areas has been the space constrain. Many farming methods required a decent amount of space to grow. Hydroponics systems requires less space. Hydroponics systems can be setup in indoor or outdoor making it effective to produce. Hydroponics systems can be setup in terrace, balcony and in indoors. Hydroponics is one of the best method in vertical farming. Vertical farming is method of growing plants in multi layers. Hydroponics systems can be stacked up in layers when grown indoors or also in any closed or controlled environment. Controlled environment farming helps to grow all variety of plants in a particular area irrespective of the present environment. Controlled environment is setup by providing the required atmosphere for growing a particular plant. Hydroponics is best suited technology for controlled environment farming.
Producing own food in our backyard, terrace or in any available space is important since we all consume vegetable in our daily diet. Hence producing it is also as important as consuming.
Having our own garden helps us in knowing the amount of energy and time that has been put up by farmers to produce our food. Spending some time in our farm/garden helps us to feels rejuvenated. Producing food lets us enjoy the different stages of plant growth from sowing seeds to harvesting our produce. Small farm/garden can better the atmosphere around it making it beautiful for all kinds of living organisms. Producing the foods teaches us the importance of the food and thus reducing our food wastage percentage.
In my next post I will give a basic idea for setting up a hydroponic farm in your available space.
