It's been nearly 40 years since Neil Armstrong made "a giant leap for mankind," even though he left Earth. The US government, desperate to beat the Russians in the space race, had Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin perform missions on a secret movie set high up in the Hollywood Hills (by theory), so that the lunar surface could be destroyed.
There are suspicions that the landing was faked and was deep inside Area 51. Photos and videos of the Apollo program are available only through NASA, so there is no independent confirmation that the moon landing was anything but a lie.
The smoking gun? A movie in which Aldrin raises the Stars and Stripes on the moon. Critics claim it proves Aldrin was never in space. The movement of the flag clearly indicates the presence of wind, which is impossible in a vacuum. According to NASA, the flag moved because Aldrin rotated the flagpole to reach the moon's Earth. (Not to mention, astronauts have brought back hundreds of independently verified moon rocks.)
Theorists have even suggested that director Stanley Kubrick helped NASA fake the first moon landing, given the 1968 film 2001.
Space Odessey proves that the technology existed at the time to artificially create space-like backgrounds. And Virgil I. Grissom, Edward H. White, and Roger B. Chaffee - the three astronauts who died in a fire while testing equipment for the first lunar mission? They were executed by the US government for fear of exposing the truth.
Pictures of the moon have no stars. There is no air on the moon, so the sky is pitch black and you should be able to see the stars. Atmospheric air is made up of many small particles that reflect light. This can make it difficult to see the stars. We are seeing this on Earth as well. Stars are difficult to see in cities with severe light pollution. Since there is no air on the moon, there should be no light pollution and the stars should be clearly visible.
A third claim is that the captured image contains shadows that are not simply black. If the moon's only light source were the sun, the shadow would be black. This is because the light is not diffused to brighten these shadow areas. But while there is no air to scatter light, the Moon does have other sources of light. There may be a touch of light from Earth.
