This is my first blog and i couldn't think of anything else but.. "Chicken Momos".
The word "momo" has a really interesting meaning. It means ‘idiot’ or an ‘annoying person,' it's initially a Newari food in the kathmandu valley later introduced to Tibet.
Basically this momo recipe is really easy and anyone can give this a try at home especially during this lockdown, its really doubtful to order from outside (questioning the hygiene) but you also crave these street foods alot, so let's get started.
Ingredients for dough -
4 cup all purpose flour (maida)
1tsp oil
Salt as per taste
Ingredients for chicken filling -
500g minced chicken
1tsp ginger garlic paste
1cup chopped spring onion (green leafy part)
Half cup finely chopped onion (can use white bulb of spring onion, tastes milder than regular one)
Half tsp black pepper
1tbsp soya sauce
1tbsp oil
Salt as per taste
Method :
We'll start with the dough first, take a bowl and add flour, salt, oil mix them, knead well to make dough using water. Cover it with damp cloth and keep aside for few minutes.
Now it's time for the stuffing, take a bowl add chicken and all other ingredients, mix them well (better to use your hand). Stuff is done.
Now take small portion from the dough roll it thin (it shouldn't be thick or very thin) keeping it thick will make them taste rubbery and very thin will lead to tearing. Now fill in the chicken stuff close it giving the shape (shape doesn't needs to be perfect it doesn't matter much, taste does and it will taste great) so don't worry behind the shape, just enjoy making them.
When done making/shaping our momos put on the gas stove take a container fill half with water place the steamer pot (rice strainer/ round steel hole cookware) put momos in and cover with lid nicely.
Steam it for 15-20 mins and voila our "chicken momos" is ready!! Serve them hot😍 you can have it with schezwan sauce or else you can try this -
Take 2 medium sized tomatoes, 2onion, 2-4 red chilli add water and bring them to boil. Once done strain the water and keep them aside to cool. Take the skin off from tomatoes and grind them well in mixer to get the paste.
Take a pan add 1tbsp of oil, 1tspn ginger garlic paste add our puree also add salt and 1tspn of sugar to balance the taste cook until it thickens and our momo chutney is ready..!
Let me know if you have any queries.
