Circus' is a new Hindi film that has hit the theaters in time for Christmas. The film, directed by famous director Rohit Shetty, stars Ranveer Singh, Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez and Varun Sharma in lead roles. Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Siddhartha Jadhav, Mukesh Tiwari, Vrajesh Hirji, Murali Sharma and Brijendra Kala have also made guest appearances with Deepika Padukone.Blending both comedy and action, Rohit Shetty's films have a special ability to draw audiences to the theatres. The Hindi film world was eagerly waiting to know if the director's ingredients would work this time too. But unlike what was expected, the film gave a very bad experience.Ranveer Singh's films like '83' and 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar', which did not make a splash at the theatres, were good.
The story of 'Circassie' is based on the short play 'Comedy of Errors' by William Shakespeare. The plot revolves around twin characters growing up in separate places without knowing each other and hence the confusion that ensues. The film begins with scenes from 1942.A doctor turns two pairs of twins abandoned in front of an orphanage to prove his conclusion correct. Their adopters name the children alike as Roy-Joy. That's Roy and Roy are brothers and Joey and Joey are brothers.Growing up in Bangalore and Ooty, they do not know each other. Roy, who runs a company called Jubilee Circus in Ooty, has a unique feature of not getting electrocuted. It became a staple of the circus and earned Roy the nickname Electric Man. In fact, when Roy in Ooty was practicing at Roy Current, it was Roy in Bangalore who got the shock!Later in the film, Roy and Joy from Bangalore reach Ooty and the ensuing confusions in connection with the plotting.
There have been many films based on 'Comedy of Errors'. Examples in Bollywood itself include Do Dhoni Char (1968) and Ankoor (1982). Moreover, the circus is reminiscent of other films including 'Ram Or Shyam'.But the problem with the film is not that the story is familiar. The main challenge is the screenplay, where nothing more can be added beyond that idea that can be said in a single line. Even the central characters cannot be clearly developed so the audience will not have any connection with them. Many of the things that were written, including one of the twins getting shocked when he touches the current, felt like a slap in the face as there was no need in the story. The next problem is that despite being a comedy, the dialogues and visuals fail to make the audience laugh. Apart from a few smile-inducing moments, 'Circus' is full of boring exercises.Circus is the fifteenth film directed by Rohit Shetty. It can also be recorded as the worst film of the director's career. The director, who also presents comedy in action films, has made the audience laugh more with the Golmaal series. Although the story of Circus is different from 'Golmaali', the presentation is related to it.But that connection, which seemed attractive in the trailer, was completely useless in the film. The director has made the film by believing only in comedy without any action. Action scenes are not expected, so it's okay, but the lack of laugh-out-loud moments is a problem.I never thought that a director like Rohit Shetty would choose such a bad script. If people think that names like Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Golmaal will buy tickets even though there is nothing in the film, then they are wrong. Despite the screenplay, the director had a good cast.At least if they were used correctly the film would have been less interesting. The reality is that Rohit Shetty could not even portray the 60s-70s believably. It is known that the circus is not a realistic film, however when showing a period it has to look believable!Fans of stars like Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma might have watched the film for that reason. Apart from that, there is nothing in the film to keep the audience entertained for two and a half hours. All the actors have given their best performance, but the hollow character creation and the screenplay that does not have a precise flow have made everything fail. Scenes prepared with the misconception that the audience will laugh are a test of patience.Because of this, even if the actors did well, the overall experience turned out to be bad.
The background score is impeccable, reminding us at times that this is a Rohit Shetty film. Only the song 'Current Laga Re' composed by Lijo George and DJ Tejas got the audience excited. Deepika coming to step with Ranveer in that singing scene was more beneficial.None of the rest of the director's strategies met with success. The short film Ranveer Ching Returns, Mudalinghot Rohit Shetty films, is seen by the audience through the camera lens of Jomon T John. Jomon has done the cinematography this time again with the charm that befits a masala entertainer, but the on-set filming is tame. The visuals lacked the charm of Ooty, the film's main backdrop. It is also a bad decision of the director to shoot on sets instead of shooting in real locations. When that artificiality is combined with the fact that the period is not believably presented, the 'circus' completely falls apart. Many films including 'Joker' in Malayalam have told stories in the background of circus. The Rohit Shetty film of the same name, in today's era of circus collapse, could not even do justice to the title!
