Harry Potter Is Not Just A Children's Story!

There is a big mistake in seeing the wonderful world of Harry Potter as only stories for children. These stories do not shy away from dealing with the issues of our time. In the world of Harry Potter stories there are worlds of people who know magic and people who don't. Some people believe that those who know magic are better than those who don't know magic (Muggles in Rowling's parlance). Therefore, their argument is that common people should become slaves of witches for the good of all. The reason for this, they say, is that they are more knowledgeable and capable than the average person. The same reasons were told to the world by the Europeans who set out to put the whole world under their feet. Rowling's Wizarding World is a miniature version of Europe. Europeans also said that their rule was a boon to the colonized. It is also true that they had better weapons and war strategy than other countries. Similarly, those with a magical side were able to easily conquer ordinary people. In Rowling's story, the witches' dreams are thwarted by their rivalry. Similarly, the European powers lost their colonies by fighting each other. What the witches tried to do to the common people was to deny them education as the whites did to the blacks. It is on this account that the first quarrel between the sorcerers arises. We can see the difficulty of accepting those who are different from them in witches and white people. In the Harry Potter story, a wizard decides to kill ordinary people trying to get an education.A section of witches try to hunt down ordinary people like Hitler tried to exterminate the Jews. Rowling only gives literary language to the real problems and history of the world in which she lives. As such, they deserve careful reading like any other writer.

We live in a world where there are religious people who believe that they can get to heaven by killing others.Voldemort, the main villain in the Harry Potter stories, holds this same belief. He chooses to kill others for immortality. But Rowling tries not only to present problems but also to suggest solutions. In the novels, we can see witches who have great sympathy for common people. Many of them are willing to fight their own people to protect the common people. In Rowling's fantasy world, good triumphs over evil. But in our real world the story is different. We live in a world where dalits, blacks and the poor have no rights, they don't belong. As seen in Rowling's novels, people who have made violence a lifestyle are on the rise.In Rowling's novels, we see an evolution towards a world ruled by open-hearted people.
