Well, we all know for a fact that cigarettes aren't good for us. We have known it's dangers for decades. We will be discussing here about what exactly happens when the ingredients of cigarettes make their way through our human bodies.

Do you know  that with every single inhalation, the cigarette smoke brings about 5000 chemical substances into our body. At the beginning, Tar, black material starts to coat your gums and teeth, which damages the tooth enamel and eventually also causes decay. Also, the smoke is responsible for the damage of the nerve endings in the nose, causing loss of smell. In your lungs, it increases the chances of infection and also can cause some chronic diseases like emphysema. It damages the hair like cilia, responsible for cleaning the air. And then it attack alveoli, which are tiny air sacs that allow the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. A toxic gas called carbon monoxide enters the bloodstream and displaces oxygen.

Within 10 secs, brain sends a transmitter called NICOTINE, which triggers the release of dopamine and other neurotransmitters. It also releases endorphins, which is the reason you get highly addicted towards smoking. Nicotine can cause thickening of the blood vessels which will eventually result in internal clotting and heart attacks.

Many of the chemicals can cause intense mutations in our DNA, that can take cancerous forms. It is not always lung cancer, but smoking can cause tens of other types of cancer and also damage you eyesight and weaken your bone structure. It might be harder to get pregnant for women and in men, it can cause ED.

Effects of quitting smoking.

Just after half an hour of the smokers last cigarette, their blood pressure and heart rate starts to return at normal readings. After about a day, the chances of getting a heart attacl decreases. One month goes and the lungs become healthier with less coughing and less shortage of breath.

After 1 whole year, heart risks reduces to half as blood vessels functions better. And your body repairs itself year to year and after about 15 years your heart risks is the same as a non smoker's.

Obviously it is not really easy for a smoker to quit. It can lead to depression and anxiety, which is caused by our dear transmitter friend dopamine.

Always remember that prevention is way better than cure, so please avoid smoking if possible.

So that was all for this blog.

Thank you for reading so far.
