Welcome or welcome back my dear bloggers to my daily blogs. I hope you all are in well health and are having a blast of a day.

So today we will be talking about a historical tragedy. It is The great Hindenburg disaster.

So the Hindenburg disaster was an airship accident that occured on 1937, May 6. It occured in Manchester Township of New Jersey, U.S. It was the German Passesnger airship LZ 129 which caught on fire and was destroyed during its attempt to dock with its mooring mast at Naval Air Station Lakehurst.

The Hindenberg was the largest commercial airship ever built. At that time it was the most technologically advanced. It was about 245 meters long and 41.2 meters in diameter.

It had a maximum speed of 135km per hour and a cruising speed ( normal speed) of 126 km per hour.

You might wonder what about its cost then? if it was this huge it must have been cost a lot?  So yes it was about    $ 3 million.

The airship was designed to be filled with helium gas but they replaced it with hydrogen as the U.S. expoet was restricted to Germany. As you may know, hydrogen is highly flammable gas, and the report says that the official cause of the fire was due to a “discharge of atmospheric electricity”.

What went wrong??

Hugo Eckener said that the fire was started by an electric spark which was caused by a buildup of the static electricity on the airship.

Casualties… There were total of 97 people on that airship, out of which only 62 survived and 35 unfortunately lost their lives. Not only that but one crew member who was positioned under the airship, died when a part of the structure collapsed on him. A tour held in the Hindenberg museum includes the Lakehurst Heritage Center, which includes some of the few existing parts of the real Hindenburg.

Today, the report is that there are about 25 blimps still in existence amd only about half of them are used still for advertising purposes.

There is a two hour docu drama called Hindenburg: The Untold Story, which is about the disaster of the Hindenburg  and the investigation followed

That is all for this blog, guys. I hope you find this interesting. Comment below  your thoughts  on this. See you until next time.
