Hi friends! Welcome back to my page. How you all doing? I am fine here and expect the same from you.

Today I have come up with a new topic which most of you may be familiar with, but I would like to add few more facts. It's “The Seven Wonders of the World”. I believe you all know the list of the seven wonders of the world, but in this article I would like to let you all know more about them like the place where they were built, how, when and why. Before getting into the topic, first let me list out the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. They are : Taj Mahal, Colosseum, Christ The Redeemer Statue, Chichén Itzá, The Great Wall, Machu Picchu, Petra.

a) Taj Mahal- It is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was made entirely from white marble. It was built by the Mughal Emperor "Shah Jahan" to honor his deceased wife “Mumtaz Mahal”. It was built in 1632 and in 1648, mausoleum was finished. It is believed over 1,000 elephants were used to transport building materials. It took the efforts of 22,000 labourers, painters, embroidery artists and stone-cutters to shape Taj Mahal.

b) Colosseum- It is located in Rome, Italy. It is an arena which can hold up to 50,000 spectators. It is famous because it is the origin of gladiator fights that took place in the Roman Empire. People often came to watch fierce fighters called ‘Gladiators’. It was built during the reign of Flavian Emperors as a gift to Roman people. It was built between A.D. 70 and 72 under Emperor Vespasian. The Colosseum was built by 60,000 Jewish slaves.

It was constructed between 1922 and 1931. It is one of the Seven Wonders because it is a Symbol of Christianity across the world. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. The statue weighs approx. 635 tons. It is built on the mountain named “Corcovado”.

d) Chichén Itzá- It is located in Yucatán, Mexico. It is a complex of Mayan ruins(which occupies an area of 4 square miles) on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. A massive step pyramid known as “El Castillo” or “Temple of Kukulcan”(98feet in height), which dominates the ancient city. Archaeologists were unsure about when exactly the building of Itzá began, but historical records suggest that its early phases began around 600-750 A.D. Historians believe that Chichén Itzá was founded and rose to prominence due to its close proximity to “Xtoloc Cenote”, an underground source of fresh water. At certain times of year, the sunset casts shadows on this famous Mayan pyramid, creating the appearance of “Snake” slithering down it's stairs.

e) The Great Wall- Stretches an estimated 4,500 miles(7,242km) across china(built during Ming Dynasty). Smaller walls had been built over years but The first Emperor of China, Qin Chi Huang, decided that he want a single giant wall to protect his northern borders. It is believed that the Great Wall took over a period of approx. 20years to built. In Chinese, the ‘Great Wall’ is called “Wanli Changcheng”.

f) Machu Picchu- It is a 15th century Inca citadel, located near Cusco, Peru. It symbolizes the excellent technical skills of Inca Empire. Archeologists believe that, it was constructed as an estate for the Inca Emperor "Pachacuti". Inca workers moved giant stones up the mountain (2,429m tall i.e.., 7,970foot-tall) to build Machu Picchu. It remained for almost 500years as a lost city.
