The succubus/ succubi are considered as demoniccreatures that take seductive female appearances in the dreams of men. They origin from the roots in Jewish Mythology and also medieval folklore. In many of these cases, Lilith, who was the first man,  Adam's, first wife before Eve, turned into a demon and the queen of the Succubi. They are often represented as ummensely beautiful women with wings but also with the horns on their forehead, which shows their demonic character.

They were known to feed on the sexual energy of their victims. With such immense seductive powers, they became irresistible for a normal man. As men find delight in their sexual dreams, the succubi feed off of their energy. The symptoms were considered to be less motivated and more exhausted men. So  casting out these demons became necessary. It was rather easy task, they perpetrated their actions while the men were vulnerable. The reason behind them being so irresistible was that they could become the victim's greatest desired object / person. 

Incubus: the male succubi.

Not every seductive demon is a female but they can also assume a male shape, therefore everyone became vulnerable to these evil creatures. And when they do so, they are referred to as Incubii. Their powers and goals are the same as the succubi, but whereas the succubi hunt men' dreams, these hunted women's dreams and made them vulnerable. It was a believed rumor that the succubi would take the semen from their men victims and the incubii would impregnate their women victims in their dreams. The children born from this devious method would have some kind of deformity. So when there were signs that the child is born by an incubi, the child was instantly seen as cursed and rejected from birth. 

Methods like exorcism were to be performed in order to remove the devil from a person's mind. As they are seductive creatures they were often seen as related to vampires as the vampires also were known to use seductive methods and drain the victims energy.
