Welcome or welcome back my dear bloggers to my daily blogs. I hope you all are in good health and are having a nice day.๐
Today we will be talking about a greek mythological story, it is interesting trust me.
King Midas, ruler of ancient kingdom of Phrygia, known as a rogue ruler whose actions distracted even gods. He used to spend his days in splendor along with his daughter enjoying the rich feasts and wines.
One day, he saw a satyr, drunk and asleep in his garden. He recognized the satyr as the follower of Dionysus( god of wine, carnival and performance) so he took care of him and provide him shelter. In return the satyr provided the king one wish. Being trapped with the greed, he wanted more gold. So the wish was granted, the power to turn anything the king touched into gold.
Naturally he turned his whole palace into gold within a few moments and he enjoyed all the lush. Being tired and exhausted of turning everything gold, he took a break and picked up some grapes from his gold bowl. But he almost shattered his teeth for the fruit had turned gold in his mouth. Even the bread and the cozy bed turned into hard metal. Her daughter worried about him, goes to check in on him only to turn into gold with the touch of his fingers. Horrified by what he has done, the King Mydas begs the gods to get rid of that power.
Dionysus advices Midas to wash his hands in the River Pactolus. The gold got washed off into the river as he reacher the water. He returns to his palace to find the daughter alive and not gold along with all the materials he had turned gold.
You'd think that everything was fine again, but just a few days later, Midas insulted the music and sun god APOLLO when he declared Pan a greater musician. Apollo furiously turned Midas's ears into the ears of an ass( Donkey). After realizing his mistake he kept his ass ears hidden in public.
Only midas's barber could see his ears and was sworn to secrecy. But he wanted to tell someone so he dug a hole in the ground and spoke โMidas has ass's earsโ. After that, a clump of reeds sprang up from that hole and along with the wind they carried his whispers: โMidas has ass's earsโ. After all this, Midas was not the most respected ruler. And where other kings were honored through statues and temples, Midas was remembered in the depths of the glittering river and the rustle of the Phrygian windโฆ
