Welcome or welcome back my dear bloggers. I hope you are having a great day.π
So today we will be learning a bit about architecture. If you would be asking me the definition of the term architecture, I would probably describe it as the magical 3D art with highest definition. But to be exact it is the art and technique of designing and building. It is creation.
By asking what is the best architecture piece you have seen?, most of the people would be replying with the tallest building in history, Al Burj Khalifa, the eye of Dubai. Now I have this structure which focuses more on precision and genius than just being the tallest structure.
HARPA concert hall.
Harpa means harp in icelandic language, so it gives justice to its name. it is also the name of the first month of spring.
It is a concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavik, Iceland. Apparently, it was designed to be an icon, which it proved to be. This building showcases a beautiful coloured glass facade inspired by the basalt landscape of Iceland. Its construction started in 2007 and the first concert was held in 2011, almost 5 years in the making. Now get ready to hear its cost - β¬164 million that is βΉ14,54,13,739( 14 and a half crore), i mean that's crazy. Teh architectuee firm that created this masterpiece is The Henning Larsen Architects in cooperation with Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.
It is situated with a clear view of the sea and the mountains surrounding the place, Reykjavik. In the grand opening concert on 4 may 2011, iceland Symphony Orchestra performed under Vladimir Ashkenazy. In the day sunshine, the geometric figures produce a crystal like figure which captures and reflects the light and creates a magical connection between the building, the city and the natural scenery. And at dark nights, the facades light up with LED lights showcasing its modernism.
Near the Harpa is The Musician (sculptor) in the waters. It is of a cellist playing. Harpa is owned by the Portus, a company operated by the government of icland and the city of Reykjavik.
In 2013, Harpa won an award for the best contemporary architecture known as the European Union's Mies van der Rohe award.
So that's all about it guys, its just that being the tallest did'nt make the Burj the most impressive.
