In this blog I'm going to share the storage of some food items. Always we prefer to store the food items inside the fridge. Because that is more convenient for us. We don't even check the storage condition for that. If it is proper or not.
Always try to store the food items in the proper storage condition. Why because only then we can maintain the naturally fresh and flavor full food items for longer periods.
Spices , don't store them inside the fridge. Humidity is the enemy of spices. We always cut the cover and take the required amount of spice then place it inside the fridge. This will change the texture and taste of the spice. So always store them in a cupboard in air tight container in a dark and dry place. So that we can store them for long periods.
Pickles and sauces have natural preservatives like oils,salt, vinegar, lemon juices and turmeric. So it need not be stored inside the fridge. You can keep it outside the fridge.
Nuts and seeds ,it's really unnecessary to keep this inside the fridge. Air is the enemy of dry fruits. So we can store them inside a tightly closed container. In an air tight container we can store them for long.
Oils like mustard oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, ground nut oil and ghee should not be stored inside the fridge. These oils should be stored In dark and dry place.
These oils should be stored In glass bottle rather than in plastic or metal. Ayurveda suggest ghee in glass , ceramic, mud gets more medicinal value.
Potatoes, onion and garlic prefer room temperature. So they need not be stored inside the fridge. Cold temperature break down the starch in potatoes. This will make it unpleasantly sweet and make onion mouldy and mushy.
These items should be stored in well ventilated place outside the fridge. So that they can store for longer.
Citrus fruits like lemon and orange should be kept outside the fridge. The proper storage method is cover the lemon in a news paper and kept at the room temperature.
For every food items we should maintain a proper storage condition. Only then we can store it for longer periods . And also only then we can store them freshly with maintaining the proper taste of it.
We should avoid the habbit of storing everything inside the fridge. It's time to remove many items from your fridge today.
