Hospital Night Shift- My Experience

Good morning 🌞

I'm back with another blog. As the title indicate today I'm going to share my experience on night shift. I'm working in a hospital as a pharmacist, so it's obvious that I have to work in night. It's something I really hate about my job. I'm a person who love to sleep. May be that will be the reason why I hate night shift the most.

And there won't be nobody who loves to work in night shift. I have worked in 3 hospitals. In previous 2 hospital there was no night shifts. And that 2 hospital was away from my home and I stayed in hostel. Now I'm working in a hospital which is very near to my home, only walkable distance. It take about 20 minutes of walk.

I still remember the first night shift day. I was really tensed and sad too. There will be 2 person in night shift. And one person can sleep for 4 hours. But believe me I can't just even sleep for a second due to the printer sound and also the light.

First person can sleep from 12 am to 4am. And the other person can sleep from 4 am to 8 pm. I always prefer the second. Why because that will be the time when there won't be any phone calls from ward.

Night shift is really hard , it's about 14 hours. It starts at 6 pm and relieved at 8 am. We can only out after the morning shift person come. And after giving the handover.

While the other person sleeping I will be sitting in the chair in front. Some days the phone will ring frequently. And in some days I just lay my head on desk and take a nap. Always that nap change to a deep sleep until the phone rings or any patients came to buy medicine.

There are some psychopaths who came to buy medicine for 2 or 3 months in night, makes me cry 🥴 . At that time only one will be there. So the one have to bill, pick , dispense and check.

In every month, 7 days will be night shift. Actually night shift makes our health so weak. Our life rhythm changes.

I really respect those who work in night shift, because I know how hard it is.
