Irani chai, also known as Iranian tea, is a popular and aromatic tea that originated in Iran but gained popularity in India, particularly in the city of Hyderabad. It is a unique and flavorful tea that is typically served with a generous amount of milk and sugar. Here's a recipe to prepare Irani chai:

Preparation Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 15 minutes Serves: 4-6

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea leaves (such as Assam tea)
  • 2-3 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1-2 teaspoons dried rose petals (optional)
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Saffron strands (optional)

Instructions:

In a saucepan, add water and bring it to a boil over medium heat.

Once the water boils, add the loose black tea leaves, crushed green cardamom pods, and dried rose petals (if using). Stir gently to combine.

Reduce the heat to low and let the tea simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.

Meanwhile, in a separate pan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam. Be careful not to let it boil.

Add the steaming milk to the tea mixture and stir well.

Allow the tea to simmer for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

While the tea is simmering, you can crush a few saffron strands and add them to the tea for an extra touch of flavor and aroma.

Taste the tea and add sugar according to your preference. Stir well until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Remove the pan from the heat and strain the Irani chai into cups or a teapot using a fine-mesh strainer to remove the tea leaves, cardamom pods, and rose petals.

Pour the hot and fragrant Irani chai into serving cups or a teacup, and it's ready to be enjoyed!

Irani chai is traditionally served with buttery biscuits or savory snacks like Osmania biscuits or Irani samosas. The combination of the rich and creamy tea with the sweet biscuits creates a delightful experience.

Note: Irani chai is known for its strong flavor and rich milkiness. Adjust the tea leaves, milk, and sugar quantities according to your taste preferences.

Take some time to savor the warmth and flavors of Irani chai while sharing it with friends or family. It's a perfect beverage to enjoy during tea time or as a comforting drink any time of the day.
