Hey everyone!
Hope you all are in good health.
Few days ago, I completed reading the novel “Palace of Illusions” and today I am going to review it for you all.
Palace of Illusions is a mythological fiction genre. It is based on the story of epic Mahabharata, and the story is narrated from Draupadi’s point of view. Mahabharata is one of the greatest epics and greatest wars of all time. The story of Pandavas and Kauravas, Draupadi’s humiliation in court of Hastinapur is known by almost everyone. And of course who can forget the Lord Krishna’s participation in it. All those who would have known the story of Mahabharata cannot forget to name his character whenever they think of Mahabharata.
With the first chapter ‘fire’ starts the story of Draupadi from her birth. From her birth, Draupadi’s life was a bit unusual, sad, and full of troubles. Her father didn’t love her and she had no mother who would have cared for her or loved her. But she had a sister and brother, who loved her. Initial few chapters focus on her life before marriage. And as we all know about her marriage with Pandavas, that also is covered in the novel. But there’s a twist in the storyline that comes after when the phase of her marriage starts.
I found this novel a good read because it very well merges mythological facts with fiction making it interesting to read. This genre is also different and it gives you curiosity to read further. Even though most of you might be aware of the story, but its fictional element comes up with new twists and turns and you will want to know the story further.
One more thing I liked was the character of Krishna in it. I worship God Krishna and I love all the stories about him. This novel also revolves around Krishna, his role in Draupadi’s life, in the life of Pandavas, and in the war. Story focuses on his divinity in great style.
The book’s ending chapter is also named ‘fire’ which narrates the end of her life, and it is also something different I saw for the first time that both the first and last chapters have same names. I would advise my reader friends who are interested in reading fictional stories to give it a read.
Thank you!
