Why is a diamond so important to us, away from the land of India for centuries?  Underlining this, filmmaker Neeraj Pandey's two documentary series, 'The Secrets of Kohinoor', of about 45-45 minutes, recently released on Discovery Plus.

The series ends by saying, Now you understand, what is Kohinoor for you, centuries of heritage, glorious history, the identity of India, priceless gem, cursed diamond or shining stone...

Leave us to think that our heritage and our views on history matter.  In fact, the way efforts have been going on for centuries to keep us away from our own history and heritage, is it surprising that today they are coming in front of us in the form of 'secrets'.

The team of Neeraj Pandey and director Raghav Mohan Jayarath gave us an opportunity to be proud of our heritage by making a similar series earlier at the archaeological site 'Sinauli'.  Kohinoor should also be seen in that order.

In fact, history and heritage are not mere information, but they act as a catalyst for our confidence even after thousands of years.  In the role of the facilitator here is Manoj Bajpayee, who knows how to bring words to life.

They also express the mystery of history with the ease of a narrator.  Of course, credit should also be given to the writer Vaibhav Mutha, who contemporized history hundreds of years ago.

Linking with contexts is made easy.  Neeraj Pandey starts the story of 'Kohinoor' from the beginning when this rarest mineral piece of the world came out from the mine of Golconda.  It was presented to the king of the Kakatiya dynasty.

Maharaj got that diamond fixed in the left eye of the idol of Bhadrakali, the goddess of the state.  In the attack of Bakhtiyar Khilji, the temple of Bhadrakali was also broken and Heera went to Khilji.  After Khilji, that diamond came under the authority of Babur, and there is a written mention of the diamond from here.  It is mentioned in Baburnama as 'Babur's Diamond'.

And its cost has been compared to two and a half days of food for all the people of the whole world.  Name of this diamond in this series There is also an interesting story, how it reached the hands of Nadir Shah, facing the pressure of time and time, his eyes were left open, and 'Kohinoor' came out of his mouth.

Persian means 'mountain of light' in Persian.  And then it was associated with this name in such a way that despite reaching from 793 carats to 105 carats in a thousand years, 'Kohinoor' is still 'Kohinoor'.  In fact, on the pretext of Kohinoor, Neeraj Pandey gives a chance to get acquainted with the history of almost a thousand years.

With paintings and sketches in the film, cinematographer Arvind Singh brings to life the moments of history and gives an opportunity to enter time.  In fact, 'Secrets of Kohinoor' breaks the notion that documentaries are filled with monotonous information.
